My 3 Favourite Superfood Smoothies

My 3 Favourite Superfood Smoothies

We have teamed up with BioBalance to share with you my 3 favourite superfood smoothies. I seriously love smoothies! I have one everyday for breakfast and can't imagine starting my day without my morning superfood elixir. I always make sure my smoothies include a source of veggies, protein and healthy fats to cover all basics of a balanced meal. I then add in a whole bunch of different superfoods to amp up the nutrients and fuel me through my day.

I consider superfood supplements like a multivitamin. Each one have unique nutritional properties and contain beneficial vitamins and minerals to help our body function optimally. Below are my fave superfoods that I include in my diet regularly by adding to my morning smoothies:

1. Raw Cacao Powder

  • High in magnesium and other minerals.
  • Raw cacao powder contains a rich combination of antioxidants for free-radical protection.
  • Enzyme inhibitors in cacao support normal circulation of the ‘feel good’ neurotransmitters (serotonin, dopamine, anandamide, phenylethylamine) that make us feel happy - who doesn't feel good when they eat chocolate?

2. Bee Pollen

  • This is a recent addition to my diet and I am loving it! It taste like chewy bits of honey 😋
  • Bee pollen is a highly bioavailable source of proteins and carbohydrates for energy, vitamins and minerals for immunity, and enzymes, omegas and amino-acids for supporting healthy hormonal balance.
  • Contains specific enzymes that support the healthy functioning of our gut.
  • I love that BioBalance Bee Pollen is ethically sourced from the lower South Island, from hives near the Rakaia River to South Otago.

3. Spirulina

  • Spirulina’s blue-green algae is naturally high-protein and nutrient-rich.
  • It supports healthy immunity, iron levels and blood cell formation.

4. Chia Seeds

  • Chia seeds are high in protein, dietary fiber, minerals and omega 3.
  • In water, chia seeds create a gel of soluble fiber that supports colon cleansing and digestive health, making them perfect for smoothies.

5. Beetroot Powder

  • Beetroot powder supports liver detoxification, brain function and cardiovascular health.
  • It's iron and B-vitamin boost is especially beneficial for children and those who are pregnant or fatigued.
